Pantone Colour of 2020 - Classic Blue

Updated: Apr 4, 2020

Last night Pantone anounced their colour of 2020. That colour is 'Classic Blue' and Pantone feel it is a colour that represents, reassurance, confidence and connection!

We all embrace blue in our lives. We love to see a clear blue sky in the summer and there is nothing better than a still blue lake or watching the waves crash in the bluest of seas.

Who hasn't already got a pair of blue denim jeans in their wardrobe? So the colour is already familiar and comforting in a world of dispute and instability.

Classic blue is used in decor with great effect. A Mediterranean feel is easily achieved if you pair it with crisp white like these shutters below.

Used within interiors classic blue can give a cool, modern feel or if used with a range of textures and accents it can feel extremely oppulent, I personally feel it's a very versatile colour.

If you are not brave enough to embrace a whole room in Classic Blue then an accent like a front door or a feature wall can update your house without going totally OTT.

So how can we incorporate Classic Blue into our 2020 weddings? Well you can go the whole distance and wear a blue dress or suit.

Classic Blue has been a really popular colour for suits for a few years now so there is plenty of choice out their for the boys. One groom I worked with recently had the most awesome blue suede shoes to add that extra pop to his wedding outfit and I designed a cake in the same colours to match those very shoes! However, if you are not so brave maybe a blue bridesmaid dress or a blue bouquet would add that splash of colour more subtly.

So this brings us to your wedding cake. Blue is not normally a colour associated with food. Because of this a blue wedding cake always has a big impact. Teamed with gold it can look opulent.

One of my favourite wedding and event stylists Zoey O’brien of www.bespokeeventsandstyling.co.uk has been using classic blues in her styling for the past year or so. Her table setting always look luxurious and I love adding a wedding cake to her set ups. This concrete cake had a pale blue tier to co-ordinate with her blue table styling.

If you don’t fancy a blue wedding cake how about having wedding favours with a blue theme. These macarons or fortune cookies also make a great addition to your desert table or wedding cake table with just a nod to this year’s colour.

I’ve also seen requests for blue birthday cakes increase this year. This fault line cake with it’s matching wave cake popsicles and macarons were requested by an 18 year old who was obviously in the know about future trends!
